Deed William Boatright and Mary his wife to Robert Austin
Bedford County Deed Bk 11, Pg 656/657, 10-25-1802



Bedford County:

The Commonwealth of Virginia to Authur Mosely & James Callaway, Gentlemen of the County 
aforesaid, Greetings:  Whereas William Boatright and Mary his wife by their certain Indenture 
of bargain & sale bearing the date the 25th day of October 1802 have sold and conveyed to 
Robert Austin thirty seven acres of land be the same more or less with the appurtenances 
lying & being in the County aforesaid on Lick Run Creek and whereas the said Mary can not 
conveniently travel to our Court of our said County of Bedford to make acknowledgment of 
the said conveyance, we command you or any two or more of you that you do personally go to 
the said Mary & review her acknowledgment of the same privately and apart from the said Wm 
Boatright her husband whether she be willing that the said Indenture be recorded in our 
said Court and whether she doth the same freely & voluntarily without the persuasions or 
threats of her husband and when you have examined her as aforesaid that you distinctly & 
plainly send and certify us thereof in our own said County Court under your hands and seals 
returning also the said Indenture & this Writ.  Witness James Steptoe, Clerk of Our said 
Court at the Court House the 25th day of October 1802, in the 27th year of the Commonwealth.

Bedford County to wit:

By virtue of the within Commission to us directed, we have examined Mary the wife of Wm 
Boatright, to the Indenture annexed and she freely & Voluntarily relinquishes all claims of 
Dower in the lands and premises conveyed by this Indenture, which is hereto annexed, without 
the persuasions or threats of her said husband and is willing that the said Indenture be 
recorded in Our said County Court of Bedford.  Given under our hands and seals this 15th 
day of November 1802.

At a Court held for Bedford County the 27th day of December 1802, this Commission was returned 
Executed & Ordered to be recorded.
